Terms of use
What this site is, what is asked of you, and what happens to what you leave here.
What this is
An archive of the memory of Casalcassinese, a frazione of the comune of Acquafondata, in the province of Frosinone. It gathers photographs, places, dates and names, and connects them to each other.
It is a village archive, not a family one. People here share surnames without being close cousins, and the tree exists to connect different families to one another — never to argue that everyone descends from the same people.
It is maintained by one person in their spare time. It is not a commercial service, carries no advertising, and sells nothing.
Joining
Sign-up is open. You get in with a code sent by email, or with Google. There are no passwords.
An account may belong to a person or to a household — the person who recognises every face often has no email address, and a relative does the typing.
We ask you to use your own name, because here attribution is everything.
What happens to what you upload
What is yours stays yours. We do not ask you to assign us any rights, and we do not ask you to warrant rights that almost nobody can warrant over an inherited photograph: such a declaration would look solid and be worth nothing.
We ask one question at deposit: is this photograph yours, or someone else’s? If it is someone else’s, that person is credited by name.
Original files are never modified. What you add lives in the database and in a sidecar file, never inside the photograph itself.
If you change your mind about something you uploaded, write to us.
What we ask of you
Write what you know, and say how you know it. "My grandmother told me" is worth more than a certainty with no source.
Do not invent. A stated doubt is a contribution; an invented date is damage that stays.
Respect the people in the photographs, including those who are no longer here and those who never asked to appear.
Corrections are made by adding, not erasing: correcting a fact does not delete the earlier one, it supersedes it while leaving it visible in the history.
Asking for something to be removed
Anyone who appears here can ask for their name, image or data to be hidden or removed, without having to explain why.
Write to info@casalcassinese.com. We reply, and the request is logged so it cannot be lost or silently reversed later.
The detail, including the intermediate measures we offer before outright removal, is in the privacy notice.
What we cannot promise
The site is provided as it is. It is maintained carefully but by one person, and it may be slow, wrong, or unavailable.
The contents are testimony, not certificates. Dates are often estimates, identifications are memories, and some things disagree with each other — the archive records the disagreement rather than settling it by decree.
Do not use this site as proof of civil status.
Governing law
Italian law applies.
Before anything else, though: write to us. Almost everything is settled with a message.
